12/31/2023 0 Comments Phantom dust pc reviewI know the people at Xbox Game Studios has it in them to make a proper and faithful sequel to this cult classic. I hope we get to see the day that a new Phantom Dust gets revealed. While the single-player offering is a bit generic, the gameplay is incredible deep and a lot of fun once you get the hang of things. The IP had and still has a lot of potential. First, is Phantom Dust any good Absolutely. In the upcoming generation with a service like Game Pass, which allows you to focus on all sorts of genres including more niche –focused audiences. Before that, we had heard very little about the game. ![]() The Xbox Game Studios Publishing team has shown enthusiasm for this IP in the past. Its only been six weeks since we got the first screenshot from the remastered version of Phantom Dust. ![]() A Phantom Dust (reboot/2) that builds upon the original combat mechanics and adds refinements such as better animations, tighter controls and additional game modes would make me play nothing else (besides Gears, don’t worry i’m still a Gears fan to the end). I’m hoping, from the bottom of my heart, that we ever see this IP make a return via a new game that builds upon what made the original game so good. Some of these arts are pure wallpaper material and i recommend you to check them out. And that’s not all, unreleased concept arts are being used as the achievement arts. On Xbox One and Windows 10, the original game is available for free: h ttps://The re-release even features my favourite achievement list to date. ![]() It’s a shame that the project had to be put on hold for a while, but there’s still a chance for you to try out this cult classic. Well in case you didn’t know, the IP was supposed to be brought back after an initial announcement back at E3 2014. So “what now?” you might be asking yourself after reading this article.

Now that we’ve gotten all of that out of the way, here are my NFL picks and score predictions for the Wild Card Round. Then again, isn’t that part of the fun of it all? Plenty of research goes into it, but there’s no crystal ball - craziness occurs every Sunday. Just remember that making picks is not a science. But now that the postseason is upon us, I’m hoping I’ll rediscover some of that success I was enjoying early on. After a strong middle part of the season, the last few weeks were rough. We still have lots to cover so cover up, and buckle up. Hi guys, this is the fourth and final part of my Canjam Singapore impressions. But for maximum fun when listening to club music, I’ve hardly heard anything better. I find the emotionality of these pieces to truly suffer under the Canary’s coloured looking glass. But, if realism is at all a criteria – for classical or jazz, especially – the Canary will not deliver. The low, middle and top-ends fill it sufficiently without one overshadowing the other. So, fatigue or compression don’t set in as quickly. It’s an explosive sig set within a holographic, richly-layered and well-nuanced stage. The electrostats definitely give it an edge over similar-sounding monitors in space and headroom. But despite that, the Canary does come together quite coherently bound by the warmth of the mid-bass and cut through with top-end air. This is a highly-coloured sound meant to emphasise dynamic impact as much as possible. There’s a club-like, guilty pleasure quality to its sound that combines head-bob-worthy bass with crystal clarity. It possesses a neutral tone – a warm, hearty sub-bass meeting a crisp, crisp treble – and it’s fantastic for genres like pop, EDM and hip-hop. But, if you enjoy the AAW house sound and you want further technical performance in stage expansion and imaging, the Mockingbird is a great option to consider.ĪAW Canary: The Canary is perhaps the most fun-sounding in-ear I heard all day. Unlike the Canary’s e-stats, a bright haze tends to linger up top. The treble has a tendency of becoming brittle as well. There’s a persistent glare to the Mockingbird, particularly when it comes to percussion or higher-pitched instruments. Its negatives to me are in tone and refinement. It’s neutrally positioned and sufficiently bodied, while the low-treble takes care of articulation and vibrancy. It is more linear than the Nightingale's, and it excels at impact due to extension. ![]() Like the other in-ears, the bass isn’t overtly prominent or warm. This is what gives the Mockingbird its crisp, brightly-hued top-end. There are peaks perhaps at 8, 10 and 12kHz that bolster the top-end forward, providing clarity and air to the midrange, and definition to the bass. It possesses a neutral-bright tone driven by a prominent mid-treble. So, for those who prefer calmer, more relaxing genres of music, the Nightingale is one to consider.ĪAW Mockingbird: Of the four, the Mockingbird is one of two that clearly embodies AAW’s current house sound – the same one I heard with the A1D 2018 and A3H 2018. It does not incite movement when listening to genres like hip-hop or rock. With busier tracks or arrangements, I find the Nightingale lacking dynamic impact. Compared to more mainstream tunings, instruments may sound slightly nasal-y. My only qualm would be it in the upper-mid dip. The in-ear’s calmness creates headroom, giving those recordings a spacious, effortless quality. Personally, I prefer listening to slower, simpler music with AAW’s Nightingale. The latter is more reserved by comparison. Like the A1D and A3H, the Nightingale aligns the low-end a hair behind the midrange, but there is a clear mid-bass bias over the sub-bass. The bass sounds roomy, airy and three-dimensional, though those expecting a planar low-end may yearn for more impact. Instruments span large, but they’re calmly projected. It’s easy to listen to because of how laid-back it is, particularly in the upper-mids. I can listen to these at fairly high levels and not get fatigued.AAW Nightingale: AAW’s planar-magnetic Nightingale is a smooth-sounding monitor with a lightly warm tonal balance. My favorite headphones (for a sound reference) are the Campfire Audio Andromeda, which are not warm sounding at all, but have very controlled highs. ![]() I don't want a completely warm sound without any air or highs, I just want smooth controlled highs. I am coming from the non-car audio world, headphones and home speakers, so I am not totally new to audio, just car audio. My question is, is there a component set with tweeters that will be significantly smoother than this system? I am leaning towards the JL C3-600 but from the reviews I still see a couple of people who find them a bit harsh, which makes me worry that I will also find them harsh. I even brought it back and they adjusted the tweeters down to -3db and it didn't seem to help much. I lived with it for a week and find the mids and bass significantly better, however the treble seems just as fatiguing as the old system. I brought the car to a local car audio place and they convinced me that I would like the Alpine R-S65C.2 6.5" component system. The stock speakers were very limited on the amount of mids present and I found the treble very fatiguing (i am very sensitive to treble) I very recently bought 2018 VW GTI S without the Fender audio system. 12/31/2023 0 Comments Paul weller days of speed![]() All songs were performed solo and acoustic from various venues around Europe. ![]() © 2001 Craft Recordings, a division of Concord Music Group, Inc. If the sloths were simply providing the moths with a place to reproduce, why would they need to return to the base of the same few trees? Wild sloths always poop in the same places. Pauli’s theory also leaves a few important questions unanswered. The best way to find a fresh pile of sloth poo? Find a sloth and it will take you there! The moths have simply taken advantage of the sloths’ bizarre bathroom habits and found themselves a nice niche. The moths need to find sloth poo in order to reproduce. The moths essentially just use sloths as a handy form of transport. Sloth moths don’t have mandibles in the adult form and so it is unlikely that they feed on the algae, dead skin, or parasites. ![]() But if a sloth can survive without the algae, why risk everything to try and get it? Sloth moth collected from the hair of a three-fingered sloth in Costa Rica ©Rebecca CliffeĬould the moths benefit the sloth in other ways? Maybe the nutrients are absorbed through the skin? Perhaps. I have spent countless days following sloths in the wild and observing every little movement (yes, movements are few and far between…) yet I have never seen anything that looks remotely like licking. Blood analysis done at the Sloth Sanctuary of Costa Rica shows no difference between these captive animals and their wild, algae-covered counterparts.įurthermore, a sloth has never been observed or documented licking the hair. The algae is a form of camouflage but certainly isn’t essential to the sloths’ survival.įor a start, sloths in captivity that are fed a natural diet but don’t have any algae are perfectly healthy. But it is very unlikely that the sloths gain any benefit from the moths. It is true that the sloths with the most algae tend to have more moths. It is certainly an interesting idea and one that crossed my mind when I first began working with sloths four years ago. They believe that the presence of moths facilitates the growth of algae in the hair, from which the sloth gains nutrients. Pauli et al suggest that the sloths benefit from having the moths, and so risk life and limb to maintain the relationship. Here, the larvae feed and develop into adult moths before flying up into the canopy to find a sloth. When a sloth descends to the forest floor to defecate, the female moths crawl off the sloth and into the faeces to lay their eggs. Sloth moths are a group of moths that are found exclusively in sloth hair. A team of scientists from the University of Wisconsin suggest that this behavior all revolves around the humble sloth moth. Yet this remains one of the biggest mysteries surrounding sloth behavior and one that scientists have struggled to explain for decades.Ī blog post by Ed Yong offers up an interesting theory. There must be a huge selective advantage to this weird weekly routine – it should be obvious. Sloths are extremely vulnerable to predation when on the ground.Īs if that isn’t enough, these animals can store up to a third of their body weight in faeces lugging that extra weight around is no easy task when you are a sloth. It takes a sloth an entire month to digest just one leaf, meaning that they don’t have much wiggle room when it comes to expending energy.ĭescending from the safety of the canopy to the forest floor is not only energetically very costly, it is also a suicide mission. For a sloth, this is a big deal.Ī sloth’s entire lifestyle is based around avoiding detection and using as little energy as possible. Both two-fingered (Choloepus) and three-fingered (Bradypus) sloths will only defecate once a week, and for some strange reason, they will only do it on the ground. Sloths are famous for their unusual and bizarre bathroom habits. We then measured the angle of the neural epithelium at the level of the predicted or present DLHP at the position of the 5th somite pair ( STAR Methods), which constitutes the central region of the apoptotic domain. We treated the embryos with the broad-spectrum caspase inhibitor QVD-Oph (summarized in Figure 1F, see STAR Methods), which drastically reduces the number of apoptotic cells in the neural tube ( Figures S1F and S1G). In order to test this hypothesis, we inhibited apoptosis prior to the dorsal bending of the neural epithelium. This led us to hypothesize that apoptosis might influence neural tube morphogenesis by taking part in the bending of the neural epithelium at the DLHP. We found that the increase of apoptosis slightly precedes tissue bending at the DLHP, highlighting a tight spatial and temporal correlation between apoptosis and the neural plate bending at the DLHP region in the avian neural tube ( Figure 1E). We further plotted the number of apoptotic cells together with the angle of the apical surface in the DLHP region over time. As a consequence, we chose to focus on dorsal folds morphogenesis. At later stages (from 6 ss to 8 ss), the level of apoptosis increased and a preferential accumulation of apoptotic cells was visible both at the midline, which had already bent ( Figures 1C and 1D), and in the DLHP region and more generally in the whole dorsal folds region, which interestingly changed its shape from convex to concave at around 6 ss ( Figure 1C). From 3 ss to 5 ss, apoptosis was low and randomly distributed along the DV axis of the neural tube, with a frequency slightly higher in the most dorsal part (commonly called dorsal folds), particularly in the region of the future DLHP ( Figures 1C and 1D ). To precisely map the apoptotic pattern, we counted only cells that were in the process of dying ( STAR Methods) rather than the post-apoptotic fragments of cells, which tend to relocate within the epithelium. We next quantified the distribution of apoptotic cells along the dorsoventral (DV) axis of the neural ectoderm. Interestingly, the zone with high apoptotic density extends progressively to the posterior region following somite formation (see rectangles in Figures S1C and S1D). We found that apoptotic cells tend to appear in the trunk neural plate at the 3-somite stage and persist until the complete closure of the tube. Results Apoptosis is highly increased at DLHP and required for neural tube bendingĪs a first step to define how apoptosis participates in neural tube morphogenesis, we mapped the spatiotemporal occurrences of apoptotic cells during neural plate folding ( Figure S1A, orange and blue arrowheads Video S1) and neural tube closure ( Figure S1A, red arrowhead) of chicken embryos, focusing particularly on trunk neural tissue ( Figure S1B) where apoptosis is highly abundant ( Figures 1A and S1C and S1E). This transient force would lead to a progressive deformation of the epithelium and thus participate in epithelium bending. These deformations were partly maintained, leading us to propose that apoptotic neighbors keep some memory of the apoptotic force. The contraction of this cable coincides with a fast apico-basal displacement of the apoptotic nucleus dependent on myosin II contractility and with apical and basal deformations. We show that an actomyosin cable spreads along the apico-basal axis of the dying cell and generates an apico-basal force before cell extrusion. We found that apoptosis occurs at a high frequency at the DLHP of the neural tube shortly before or at the time of bending and revealed that apoptosis plays a role in DLHP morphogenesis. Here, we use neural tube bending in avian embryos as a model to explore the dynamics of apoptotic cells and decipher how they impact the surrounding tissue. Together with the morphological defects observed when apoptosis is prevented, these data strongly suggest that the neuroepithelium keeps track of the mechanical impact of apoptotic cells and that the apoptotic forces, cumulatively, contribute actively to neural tube bending. This force, which relies on a contractile actomyosin cable that extends along the apico-basal axis of the cell, drives nuclear fragmentation and influences the neighboring tissue. Using avian embryos, we found that apoptotic cells generate an apico-basal force before being extruded from the neuro-epithelium. Neural tube closure defects have been reported when apoptosis is impaired in vertebrates, although the cellular mechanisms involved are unknown. Here, we use the formation of the neural tube to determine how apoptosis contributes to morphogenesis in vertebrates. However, how this applies to vertebrate morphogenesis remains unknown. Apoptosis plays an important role in morphogenesis, and the notion that apoptotic cells can impact their surroundings came to light recently. 12/30/2023 0 Comments Homemade pasta sauce![]() The easiest way to thicken spaghetti sauce is by adding more tomato paste, 1 tablespoon at a time, until desired consistency is reached.
